Memorial Day

Today I want to remember those that made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. Memorial Day is a day that often symbolizes the beginning of summer and is celebrated with burgers, hot dogs, ice cream and all the good things. It is a holiday, which means a day off work for a lot of people. But, it is also a time to remember those that gave their all while serving our country.

The freedoms we enjoy come with a great price. I personally know people that have lost loved ones while serving, so for them, Memorial Day isn’t about all the summer fun, but about remembrance.

In this passage, Jesus called His followers His friends. By laying down His life for His friends, He paid the ultimate price. He was the sacrifice for our spiritual freedom. We are liberated from the bondage of sin.

As an American, we have freedoms that our soldiers have stood and fought for. Today, I urge you to be mindful of those who have suffered loss and to be grateful for your freedoms. It wasn’t free.

What freedoms are you most thankful for today?

Fun fact: This was taken at church on Memorial weekend. One of the freedoms that I am most grateful for is that I can freely worship.
