Shadow

Many years ago, after dropping our daughter off at school I noticed a reflection or shadow on a wooden fence in the alley. The sun was beaming down on a street sign, and it made a cross on the fence. It immediately made me think about the reflection we leave for people to see.

Throughout our daily lives we encounter people everywhere we go. We may not realize it, but people are watching us. If we’re being honest, we all watch people. You can tell a lot about a person just by watching them. Many times, you can witness their conduct, speech, attitude among other things. And oftentimes we conclude what type of person we are seeing.

So, what are people seeing in you? What reflection or shadow are you leaving?

The cross represents Jesus’ unconditional love for us. It offers salvation for the lost, hope for the hopeless, encouragement for the downtrodden, joy in sorrow, peace in the storm and so much more. It is the greatest gift ever given!

As Christians we should be pointing people to the cross. Our lives should reflect or shadow the cross. Ask yourself this, do I reflect the cross at work, home, church, school, community, and with friends? If we are careful to leave the right reflection, God will shine the cross through us.

Today may your prayer be that you will reflect the cross in your shadows in all that you think, say and do.

Fun fact: This is the middle cross in our sanctuary, it reflects God’s goodness and grace.
