I was recently down in Kerrville, Texas and alongside the highway there is a 77’7” steel cross that overlooks the area. At the sight of the Empty Cross is also a prayer garden and other sculptures that present the gospel of Jesus Christ and point to the returning King.
The creator of this garden, Artist Max Greiner, had to fight for years to see his vision come to fruition. Atheists and bureaucracy tried to keep his vision squelched. He was faithful to stay the course, pushing forward to what God had impressed him to do.
It is a beautiful and moving place to see. You can see the cross for miles. This cross is not only a reminder of Christ’s love for us but also serves as a beacon of hope. Even unbelievers will find solace and comfort through the cross. At the foot of the cross is a plaque that reads:
John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
When I think of how this cross serves the community that it is in, I am thankful for the vision that the artist had. Even though he came up against some tremendous opposition, he never gave up pursuing the vision that God gave him.
As a believer, you are called to be a beacon of hope. When you are met with opposition, what is your response? Do you retreat or do you press on?
Today, I want to encourage you to be like Max. You may not be called to build a cross and garden, but you are called to be a light, a beacon of hope. The enemy would have you be silenced, but God would have you use your voice for His glory.
Whatever it is that God has called you to do, He will equip you. Don’t give up or be discouraged. Press on and be a beacon to those around you.
“I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14

This picture was taken on October 11, 2025, of the Empty Cross and the Returning King statues. If you are ever in the Kerrville area, this is worth seeing.
